accidental moment triggers me...the best inspiration is accidental
Birgit received her BA in Metal Arts from the
Staatliche Zeichenakademie in Hanau, Germany. "Those four
years of small-scale smithing and design gave me a solid foundation and
a broad range of skills. Several additional years of study with a
master jeweler further enriched my experience. Now, with a firm
grasp of technique, I feel free to produce my own designs."
In 1990 Birgit married an
American man and moved from her native Germany to the United States and
settled in Northern California. "Here I have created a space
that is functional as well as inspirational and allows me to work close
to home."
All of Birgits work is created in
limited editions. "My designs are clean and simple, reduced
to geometric forms with bold lines executed in silver and high-karat
gold. Fancy shaped gemstones in untraditional color combinations
take center stage on a matte-finish metal background. In my search
for visually stimulating designs I am often inspired by random
configurations. The accidental moment triggers me-most of my best
creations started accidentally.
Ultimately, my mission is to
produce high quality, simple but elegant wearable jewelry. I enjoy
the process of making each piece by hand and the beauty of each finished
piece.
